Horatio Gates GoldFor Extraordinary Achievement and ServiceHISTORY: Horatio Gates was the first Adjutant General of the Army. A Gold Medal was presented to Major General Horatio Gates by Congressional resolution to commemorate his victories over the British in the Battles of Bennington, Fort Stanwix and Saratoga. These three key battles prevented the British from occupying the strategic Hudson Valley and isolating New England from the other colonies. A replica of the original Gold Medal honors Gates' service and leadership. PURPOSE: To recognize the extraordinary achievements and service of individuals who promote the objectives and purposes of the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association (AGCRA) and the Adjutant General's Corps (AGC) or other Human Resources (HR) professional as set forth in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association. PERSONS ELIGIBLE: Any person who is a member in good standing of the Association, who is a member of the Adjutant General's Corps or other Human Resources professional, or affiliated with the Adjutant General's Corps, when the recommendation is submitted. Personnel may not receive this award more than twice. CRITERIA: Major General Horatio Gates Gold Medal is awarded for extraordinary achievement and distinguished service to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association and the Adjutant General's Corps or Human Resources for: serving as a chapter officer, chapter committee member; introducing new methods, improved techniques and innovations to increase the efficiency of the United States Army while promoting high standards of proficiency; providing a forum for the mutual exchange and discussion of ideas and information of interest; promoting esprit-de-corps, cooperation and tradition; promoting leadership and enhancing military preparedness to meet the nation's defense requirements; making improvements in the fields of personnel, administration, and human resources management, as well as postal operations, public affairs, and recruiting; and for researching, recording and perpetuating an understanding of the history of the Adjutant General's Corps and the Association. The Major General Horatio Gates Gold Medal is the highest award authorized by the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association. COST: $30.00, borne by the recommending authority. RECOMMENDING PROCEDURES: Any person, having firsthand knowledge of an individual's achievement and/or service which meets the above criteria, can recommend that individual for this award. Recommendations, in memorandum format, will be forwarded to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association, ATTN: VP for Awards, PO Box 10026, Fort Jackson, SC 29207-0026 or by email, as early as possible, but not later than 60 days prior to the presentation date. Memorandum must contain contributions to AGCRA and the Army as well as desired presentation date and PCS or retirement information. Recommendation must be endorsed by the local AGCRA Chapter President or senior Adjutant General Officer. If no Adjutant General Officer is available, a senior Human Resources professional will endorse the recommendation. A check for the appropriate amount must accompany the recommendation, payable to the AG Corps Regimental Association. If the award is disapproved, the check will be returned. Payment may also be made by credit card through the Sutler Store. APPROVAL PROCESS: The Executive Council will review award recommendations and base their recommendations on the merits of the achievement and service. For approval of the recommendation, a simple majority of the members of the Executive Council present and voting must concur. Certificates for approved recommendations will be provided to the President of the Association for authenticating signature. When signed, the certificate and medal will be mailed to the recommending authority expeditiously. If mailing has to be expedited, recommending authority will cover the costs. ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS: Award recipients will be published in "1775". PRESENTATION OF AWARDS: Presentation of medals and certificates will be made with an appropriate air of formality and at fitting ceremonies such as retirement ceremonies, anniversary celebrations of the Adjutant General's Corps, or Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association Chapter activations or anniversaries. RECORDING OF AWARDS: All awards will be recorded by entering the recipient's name, rank and unit in a database maintained by the Awards Custodian. This database will be reviewed as part of the approval process. REVOCATION OF AWARDS: In the unlikely event that information becomes known that a fraudulent award has been made, or dishonorable conduct is substantiated, the Executive Council can revoke this award, annotate the database, and notify the individual of the action. EFFECTIVE DATE: 10 October 2007 Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association Achievement MedalFor Achievement and/or ServiceHISTORY: At the request of many Chapter Presidents, the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association created an award to recognize contributions to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association and the Adjutant General's Corps or other Human Resources professional. PURPOSE: To recognize the achievements of individuals who promote the objectives and purposes of the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association, and the Adjutant General's Corps or Human Resources professional as set forth in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association. The AGCRA Achievement Medal is awarded for achievement of a lesser degree than required for award of the Horatio Gates Medal. PERSONS ELIGIBLE: Any person who is a member in good standing of the Association, and who is a member of the Adjutant General's Corps, or affiliated with the Adjutant General's Corps or other Human Resources professional, when the recommendation is submitted. Personnel may not receive this award more than twice. CRITERIA: As established by the Constitution and By-Laws and in keeping with the Association's goals that members be recognized for their accomplishments. COST: $20.00, to be borne by the recommending authority. RECOMMENDING PROCEDURES: Any person having firsthand knowledge of an individual's achievement which meets the above criteria can recommend that individual for this award. All recommendations, in memorandum format, for the AGCRA Achievement Medal will be forwarded to the Vice-President for Awards to verify membership status and preparation of the certificate and medal. The local Chapter President will review and approve/disapprove all recommendations. APPROVAL PROCESS: If approved by the local Chapter President, the award will be forwarded to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association, ATTN: VP for Awards, PO Box 10026, Fort Jackson, SC 29207-0026 or by email, as early as possible, but not later than 60 days prior to the presentation date. Membership will be verified and the certificate will be prepared and forwarded along with the medal for presentation. The local Chapter President will sign the certificate. If there is no local Chapter, the AGCRA President will approve or disapprove the recommendation after membership verification. The Association President will sign the certificate and the certificate and medal will be forwarded for presentation. A check for the appropriate amount must accompany the recommendation, payable to the AG Corps Regimental Association. If the award is disapproved, the check will be returned. EFFECTIVE DATE: 10 October 2007 Benjamin Harrison MedalFor Obtaining the Highest Overall Class Standing in Leadership, Academics, and Physical FitnessHISTORY: This award is for outstanding performance in leadership, academics and physical fitness while attending basic level training. The medal is struck by the U.S. Mint from the original die used in making the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Medal in 1893. The award is presented in recognition of Fort Benjamin Harrison as the original home of the Adjutant General's Corps. PURPOSE: To promote excellence in leadership, academics and physical fitness by recognizing the overall outstanding graduates of professional development courses (e.g., BOLC III, WOBC, BNCOC, AGCCC, WOAC, ANCOC, and Senior Human Resources Management Course). PERSONS ELIGIBLE: Any Commissioned, Warrant, or Noncommissioned Officer who is a student when the recommendation is made. CRITERIA: As established by the host school which determines the overall outstanding course graduate based on leadership, academics, and physical fitness. COST: To be borne by the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association. RECOMMENDING PROCEDURES: School Commandants, Directors, or their appointed representatives will recommend each qualified member. This recommendation will be in memorandum format and forwarded to the AG Corps Regimental Association, ATTN: VP for Awards, PO Box 10026, Fort Jackson, SC 29207-0026 or by email. APPROVAL PROCESS: The VP for Awards will prepare the certificate for the President of the Association's authenticating signature. When signed, the certificate and medal will be forwarded expeditiously to the host school. ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS: Award recipients will be published in "1775". PRESENTATION OF AWARDS: The medals and certificates should be presented at graduation ceremonies. RECORDING OF AWARDS: All awards will be recorded by entering the recipient's name and rank in a database maintained by the Awards Custodian. EFFECTIVE DATE: 10 October 2007 Theodore Roosevelt MedalFor Excellence in Physical FitnessHISTORY: This award is for superior achievement in physical fitness. The medal is struck by the U.S. Mint from the original die used in making the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Medal. President Roosevelt named Fort Benjamin Harrison the home of the Adjutant General's Corps. He also established the first Army physical fitness test in the War Department, General Order #240, dated December 4, 1907, when he advocated that it is just as much the duty of those who serve their country to adopt such measures and pursue such habits as will maintain a physical condition fit for service to their country as it is to cultivate their minds and in fitting themselves for the intellectual duties of their profession. PURPOSE: To promote physical fitness by recognizing members of the Association who achieve a maximum score on the APFT. PERSONS ELIGIBLE: Any person who is a member of the Association at the time the APFT is taken and has not previously received this award or is a student attending a basic or advanced officer, warrant officer, or noncommissioned officer course. APFT must be within the past 12 months. CRITERIA: Score 300 points on any record APFT in accordance with Army Regulations. COST: To be borne by the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association. RECOMMENDING PROCEDURES: Any person, having firsthand knowledge of an individual's achievement, can recommend that individual for this award. Recommendations will be forwarded, in memorandum format. A signed copy of the individual's APFT score card will accompany the recommendation and be forwarded to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association, ATTN: VP for Awards, PO Box 10026, Fort Jackson, SC 29207-0026 or by email. APPROVAL PROCESS: The Chapter President will verify the awardee's eligibility and forward, in memorandum format showing name and rank, a request for certificate and medal. Upon signature by the Association President, the certificate and medal will be forwarded expeditiously to the requesting Chapter. Requests for those without a Chapter will be verified by the Vice President for Awards, and certificates and medals will be forwarded expeditiously to the requester. ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS: Award recipients will be published in "1775". PRESENTATION OF AWARDS: Presentation of the medal and certificate will be made with an appropriate air of formality and at fitting ceremonies such as unit formations or at Regimental Association functions. EFFECTIVE DATE: 10 October 2007 AGCRA Medal of ExcellenceFor Obtaining the Highest Overall Class Standing in Academics, Physical Fitness, and LeadershipHISTORY: This award is for outstanding performance in academics, physical fitness and leadership while attending Advanced Individual Training. PURPOSE: To promote excellence in academics, physical fitness, and leadership by recognizing the overall outstanding graduate of Adjutant General's Corps Advanced Individual Training courses. PERSONS ELIGIBLE: Any AIT soldier in an AG Corps Advanced Individual Training course. CRITERIA: As established by the host school which determines the overall outstanding class graduate based on academics, physical, and leadership. COST: To be borne by the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association. RECOMMENDING PROCEDURES: School Commandants, Directors, or their appointed representatives will recommend each qualified member. A graduation report listing the person receiving the AGCRA Medal of Excellence will be forwarded to the Adjutant General's Corps Regimental Association, ATTN: VP for Awards, PO Box 10026, Fort Jackson, SC 29207-0026or by email. APPROVAL PROCESS: The School Commandants, Directors, or their appointed representatives will verify the awardee's eligibility and prepare the previously signed certificate with the awardee's name, class, and date. ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS: Award recipients will be published in "1775". PRESENTATION OF AWARDS: The medals and certificates should be presented at graduation ceremonies.
