The history of the Warrant Officer profession lives through the experiences of those who serve. Now in its fifth season, COHORT W, the Warrant Officer Historical Foundation’s podcast, continues to preserve those experiences and connect listeners with the people behind the profession. Two featured episodes spotlight CW5 Wesley Tuchtenhagen and CW5 (R) David Ratliff, highlighting the legacy of Adjutant General’s Corps Warrant Officers through human resources leadership and Army music.
Defend and Serve: The Legacy of the 420A
In Season 5, Episode 6, CW5 Wesley Tuchtenhagen joins the conversation for “Defend and Serve — The Legacy of the 420A.” The episode places the Human Resources Technician within the broader story of the Warrant Officer profession, highlighting a specialty whose expertise supports Soldiers, commanders, and Army readiness.
For AG professionals, this is an opportunity to connect with the history and purpose behind the work they perform every day. For those outside the Corps, it offers a closer look at the contributions of the Army’s HR technical experts.

Bandmasters: Keeper of the Army’s Soundtrack
In Season 5, Episode 3, CW5 (R) David Ratliff brings the Army Bandmaster perspective to “Bandmasters: Keeper of the Army’s Soundtrack.” The episode highlights another dimension of the AG Corps’ legacy: the Warrant Officers whose musical expertise and leadership help preserve military traditions, strengthen esprit de corps, and connect the Army with the communities it serves.
Army music accompanies moments of celebration, remembrance, and service. Preserving the Bandmaster story helps ensure the people and expertise behind those moments remain part of the Army’s historical record.

A Continuing AG Contribution
Originally started by CW5 (R) Dr. Russell Houser, former Army Bandmaster Warrant Officer Proponent, COHORT W supports the Warrant Officer Historical Foundation’s mission of preserving Warrant Officer oral history. AG professionals have contributed throughout the series, including former Chiefs Warrant Officer of the AG Corps CW5 (R) Mark Hickman and CW5 Chad Bowen, along with CW5 Charmaine Hilliard, CW2 Josh Ricker, and CW4 Ronald Carrion.
That contribution extends beyond the guest chair. CW4 Jessie Morlan, a 420A, hosted Season 4, continuing the tradition of Warrant Officers documenting the experiences and perspectives of their peers. His season concluded with a look at the experiences of students attending the 420A Warrant Officer Basic Course.
Through these conversations, AG professionals continue to help preserve the profession’s history while giving future Warrant Officers access to the voices and lessons of those who came before them.
